The Yellow Room teachers establish a physical and learning environment that addresses all aspects of a child's development in order to help children see themselves as capable learners. This requires careful planning as well as spontaneity in making and responding to opportunities to help children solve problems, explore new materials and find answers to their questions. What is known about each child's interests, abilities, needs and background is taken into consideration.

In the Yellow Room, the children often start their day by investigating some new addition to the curriculum materials, perhaps drawing pictures of newly hatched salamanders or using a new art medium. After a snack/breakfast children have a circle time in which they have stories, songs and discussions.

The remainder of the morning is spent doing projects and playing outdoors. Children have a rest after lunch, many three year olds still sleep daily. In the afternoon there is the opportunity for more project time, free play and outdoor play.

In addition to the fall pot luck and Field Day, each year the Yellow Room has a Pajama Party with Bears, a Beach Party, a Pumpkin and Apple picking field trip, a trip to VINS and Billing's farm as well as other trips that vary year to year. They take numerous walks to the Montshire Museum and go for walks on the Museum nature paths.
